This year has been such an exciting journey for me, Mia, Jalen and Mikayla as part of our new YASTSA Team at 小蓝视频. We wanted to create a hands-on STEM experience for other schools and decided to focus on the aerodynamics of boomerangs. After attending science lectures at Adelaide University and a camp in Strathalbyn, we connected with other Aboriginal students and learnt so much about science and culture. We shared this knowledge through presentations, including one for visiting Japanese students where we taught boomerang throwing, did face painting, and made damper. The highlight was presenting at the Aboriginal Learner STEM Congress at Adelaide Oval. Over 180 schools attended and I was lucky enough to speak in front of over 1000 people alongside Elder Micky. It was such an empowering moment. The day ended with a live performance from Dem Mob – an unforgettable experience that truly celebrated our culture and learning.

From September 23-24, 5 teachers and 7 students from our school proudly attended the Aboriginal STEM Congress. It was an inspiring and unforgettable experience, with workshops led by schools and Aboriginal presenters that sparked creativity and learning. We鈥檙e excited to bring this knowledge back to our community
After morning tea, my group visited the zoo, where we participated in engaging activities focusing on the animals and researching the animals. Upon returning from the zoo, we reconvened in one of the rooms to reflect and share our experiences and create a trap using materials supplied. We were given a budget and had to add up the cost for producing the traps. To make sure this was successful we then had to demonstrate with a toy hamster and make sure the trap could contain the animal.
On the second day, our first activity involved learning about bush tucker, specifically lemon myrtle. As a gift we were all given homemade cookies to try them. Later, we took part in a weaving workshop, exploring traditional Aboriginal craft techniques.
